MRKH Connect is a charity with a mission to connect those with MRKH all over the world. No one should feel alone, we are 1 in 5000 #mrkhempowerment ❤️

Two months ago, we asked our community to write fo Two months ago, we asked our community to write for us and share a submission based on the theme: A day in my life as a person with MRKH. ❤️

We are super excited to share our third submission: an insightful essay explaining the relationship between a mother and daughter navigating an MRKH diagnosis. ✨

An essay by Natasha Rohrs, titled: MRKH, My Mom and Me.

“It’s hard to know what my diagnosis even means to me after decades of performing. What would I say if I wasn’t afraid? Who would I become? MRKH has been the same story of invisible grief for so long that I wasn’t even sure who wrote it for me, or where it came from. Therein lies the danger of a single story. Living with the emotional gymnastics of MRKH has always meant coexisting with the unsaid, but I realised MRKH also revealed the incomplete truths we all negotiate with as women. MRKH is a lifelong diagnosis that changes daily, with emotional wounds that are uniquely social and always evolving.

Sometimes it’s as fragile as the pauses between two people that feel like the same old story, and sometimes, like today, it’s the grief that becomes divided when it’s shared between a mother and daughter, telling a new story.”✨

Thank you so much, @sasha.rohrs , for your raw honesty, transparency, unwavering vulnerability, and for explaining how complex MRKH can be between parent and child. This essay will invite many conversations, thoughts, and hopefully, offer up a permission slip for people to have the hard conversations at home. 💖

✨️Still time to participate✨️ The research team a ✨️Still time to participate✨️

The research team at Texas Children’s Hospital - Baylor College of Medicine led by Dr. Niccolo Passoni have been overwhelmed with the responses so far with some themes coming through that are incredibly valuable for how to better approach care but they would love more feedback.

If you haven't participated yet but have a few minutes to spare please do follow the link to the anonymous survey.

As a reminder the team are conducting a study focused on understanding the lived experiences, psychosocial needs, and support preferences of individuals with Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser (MRKH) syndrome.

They are currently distributing an anonymous survey designed to better understand:

✨️Experiences surrounding MRKH diagnosis
✨️Interactions with healthcare providers
✨️Access to emotional, psychological, and educational support
✨️Experiences with peer and support-group engagement
✨️Patient perspectives on unmet needs and future resource development

This project has never before focused on just one condition and this is why this collaboration is so special.

We all know that mental health impact is often under represented and supported so this project refocuses our attention on the impact MRKH has on our mental health and emotional wellbeing in our own words unfiltered, unscripted, unreleased.

Recently, we asked our community to write for us a Recently, we asked our community to write for us and share a submission based on the theme: A day in my life as a person with MRKH. ❤️

We are super excited to share our second submission: a straight-talking, courageous, hearty, and soul-moving essay. ✨

An essay by Niamh Asple, titled: MRKH: Beyond the Diagnosis & the Journey to Belonging

“I didn’t think the menstrual cycle had anything to do with me… yet it turned out to be the key to my healing.

I was diagnosed with MRKH when I was 16.

My Mum sobbed as the doctor shared the news, and I found myself comforting her while trying to understand what it actually meant for me.

I won’t deny there was an initial sense of relief.

I wouldn’t have the monthly “curse” my friends talked about.

I wouldn’t experience the pain some of them suffered.

I wouldn’t have to worry about getting pregnant, the fear of every teenage girl.

And I’d no longer have to endure the embarrassment of my mum stuffing tampons in my bag every time I was going anywhere. Phew!

But as the relief subsided, another reality slowly dawned…

I was different.

I wasn’t like the other girls.”

We highly encourage you to scroll, save, and share. This is such a powerful read. @niamhasple , thank you for pouring your heart and bravery onto the page. Our community is stronger because of your courage, expression, and insights. 💖
