We want to give a shout out to the lovely Emma-Mai We want to give a shout out to the lovely Emma-Mai from our community who inspired today's post (probably without even knowing). Our society draws our attention to parenthood as a norm without considering that childlessness (elective or otherwise) is the reality for many and is no less valid. It's not a case of one path is more important than the other but that they are different and not really comparable at all. The only similarity is that emotions play in to journeys on both sides where pathways with children as well as without can be paved with uncertainty, frustration and sadness but also, importantly joy. We celebrate the wonderful successes of science that brings about the chances that many hope for but equally we see so many in our community (including members of the Board) thriving without the children they hoped for. Childlessness or "Otherhood" as coined by the wonderful Emma-Mai may not be the path many of us expected or chose but it doesn't mean we can't live, thrive and build a legacy. Our success and legacy is not dictated by the ability to have a child but by striving to be the best version of ourselves, to find our path and importantly our happy. Whatever that looks like for us. Recently, we asked our community to write for us a Recently, we asked our community to write for us and share a submission based around the theme: A day in my life as a person with MRKH. ❤️ We are so thrilled and grateful to share our first submission; a sensitive, brave, and insightful poem that will leave your heart feeling recognised, seen, and warm. ✨ A poem by SiTa, titled: Hidden in Plain Sight You ask me ‘How are you?’ I say ‘I’m okay’ We smile, and we talk And continue our day You ask me ‘How are you?’ I tell you ‘I’m fine’ Because I’m not ready To cross that line You ask me ‘How are you?’ I respond ‘I’m alright’ While I put on a smile And continue the fight The fight to keep my feelings hidden The fight to keep it all inside The fight to keep you in the dark While I’m trying not to lose my light I managed to hide my feelings so well Some days I felt like an empty shell I put on my armour and pushed you away Until I opened up one day Until I found the courage to share Until I decided that I don’t care Don’t care that you will know my grief Don’t care about what others believe I am enough the way I was born And although for some time I felt forlorn Felt lonely, felt hopeless, felt incomplete My story does not make me weak I grew stronger, Grew sure of who I am And my future’s no longer Without happy end. "I'm fine" can be as much a security blanket as a call for help. Take time to recognise your own feelings, check on those close to you and know that whatever you are feeling you are not alone. We would like to send a heartwarming and congratul We would like to send a heartwarming and congratulatory message to Lauren Fowler on the announcement of her pregnancy, following a womb transplant. After being diagnosed with MRKH, Lauren believed she would never carry a child of her own. However, due to a pioneering procedure, a womb transplant, Lauren’s dream has come true. ❤️ Understanding the sensitivity of this announcement, we would like to extend a giant hug to all those who continue to face the confronting realities of MRKH. Our DMs remain open. 🫂✨ “On a recent visit back to her hometown of Rainham in Kent, Lauren Fowler bumped into an old school friend who took one look at her and gasped. ‘She said, “Oh my goodness, how on earth can you be pregnant?”,’ recalls Lauren, 37, who works in marketing for a recruitment firm. Lauren had confided to her when they were still at school that she, like thousands of women in the UK, was born without a womb. On May 11 last year, Lauren’s sister Kelly Jagga, aged 40 (a mother to Ashley, 13, Louis, nine, and Sophie, 11), gave Lauren ‘the most amazing gift’, undergoing hours of surgery – and weeks of painful recovery – to donate her womb to her so she could experience pregnancy, something that she feared would always be beyond her reach. ‘You have to really, really want it to get through a womb transplant. This project is designed to raise awareness around mental health and, in this case also MRKH. I'm OK is a project encouraging individuals to talk about their emotional wellbeing and mental health experiences in their own words whilst telling their story through their portraits. This project has never before focused on just one condition. As many of us know, mental health is often secondary to physiological support on our journey. This project aims to refocus our attention on the impact MRKH has on our mental health and emotional wellbeing in our own words unfiltered, unscripted, unreleased. Whether you are living with MRKH or supporting someone with MRKH, we invite you to share with us only if you feel comfortable to do so. There are so many ways to approach your submission. We had a PHENOMENAL line-up of speakers, including the insanely brilliant, Kayte Callaghan and Ellamae Fullalove, who co-hosted a presentation titled: MRKH and Below the Belt Uncovered! As a community, we’ve come a long way when it comes to openly talking about pleasure, sex, and intimacy. With censorship hot on our tail, sharing content isn’t always easy, despite it being so relevant and educational.
